As a new arrival in Qatar and to the QatarQlick Community, please allow me to introduce myself - I'm Brandy, also known as "AdventureGirl". My motto is - "Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing" (Helen Keller). For me, this means that EVERYTHING is an adventure. Some adventures being more "daring" than others. In future posts, I hope to share with you some of my adventures.
I've been in Doha just over a month now. I love the city, the people I've met are fantastic, and I feel very optimistic about settling comfortably here. But...I am a bit home sick. In the States, my favorite time of year is autumn (or fall). The weather gets brisk, the leaves change color and I prepare to get cozy for the winter. Being in Doha, I have noticed the weather has cooled a bit, but it doesn't feel much like autumn, although I admit I've taken to long-sleeved shirts as it's cooled.
This week we celebrate American Thanksgiving. It's a holiday of being thankful for family and friends most often expressed by sharing a huge feast and watching some American football. This Thanksgiving things are a bit different than I'm used to, but I'm thrilled to be hosting a Thanksgiving dinner for my new friends in Doha. My next post will focus on my first Thanksgiving holiday adventure in Doha.
I wrote the following poem, "the leaves", in November 2008 after spending an afternoon walking through the woods and marveling at the changing seasons.
the leaves
fall
falling
to the ground
with a crisp dry
fall
falling
sound
in the richly colored crackling carpet
spin round ‘n’ round
‘til I’m dizzy with the scent
fall
falling
down
looking up through the shedding limbs
I have found
Fall
fall
falling
to the ground
